DD on the set of Triangle Entertainment Tonight, November 1998

You've seen the episode, now get the secrets behind the most elaborate "X Files" ever. Join DAVID DUCHOVNY on the Queen Mary for a look at this tricky period piece, single shot adventure for the scoop on the show's new post-movie life in sunny Los Angeles. Will there be any more romance between Mulder and Scully? The truth is in here...

Entertainment Tonight: So, you're fighting and sweaty and dirty, beating up people in this episode?

David Duchovny: No, Mulder rarely beats people up. He usually gets beaten... I'm all bruised up. Today I'll probably get thrown around a little more by some Nazis although I'm told that that's politically incorrect. They prefer to be called German socialists. I don't want to offend anybody.

ET: So, what's happening in this scene?

David: They're trying to find a man who has certain knowledge... GILLIAN [ANDERSON] and I may or may not know who this man is, and they're trying to find out who he is in this scene.

ET: What's it like being in L.A.?

David: It is great! I'm a lot happier working here. It has nothing to do with liking L.A. more than Vancouver. It's just living at home, working out of my home, it makes a big difference.

ET: Will it change the feel of the show with all of the sunshine and palm trees?

David: It was five years of that feel, and now we'll have a new feel. It will be similar, not radically different. We get to do things we weren't able to do in Vancouver. We get to do desert stuff. Deserts have figured prominently in UFO lore, so we'll see... it'll be brighter.

ET: Are you feeling pressure because in this episode you're doing a 360 degree shot?

David: I was the first couple days. I had long eight page scenes without any cuts. You have to get it to your satisfaction, while the cameraman has to get it, and the extras have to move in unison... We'd be working eight hours before lunch and still have not gotten a single shot.

ET: So, you're the only one in this episode not in 'period' clothes.

David: It's kind of like, it could be my dream or it could be a warping of two dimensions. I'm the only one who is as he appears in the present.

ET: Not like Gillian, she's got the pin curls in her hair, the whole thing?

David: I wanted to, but I didn't look so good with the curly hair, or in a dress.

ET: Speaking of Gillian, I understand there is a kiss in this episode??

David: Oh, yeah, a big one.

ET: It's not like the movie, an almost kiss??

David: No, this is serious, a smooch...

ET: Do you look into each other's eyes?

David: No, it's a surprise attack on my part, it's not what you would call mutual.

ET: I wanted to talk about the endless shot a little more.

David: It's fun, challenging. It's almost athletic. Usually you're doing set up after set up, angle after angle, take after take you don't have to get it all right. There's like not much pressure, you can screw up five and get one. Here, you gotta get it all the way through. I had one scene where I got smacked in the middle of it. I get beat up in this whole episode. I get smacked and CHRIS CARTER wanted me to be bloody, so I had to go into the scene with a blood capsule. You know, there's still a capsule in my mouth even though the blood has been released. So the camera was off me and I couldn't get it out it was stuck to the side of my mouth. I was like this, (finger in mouth) and all of a sudden, the camera's coming and I was like (pulls finger out of mouth). So, it's different from what you usually do.

ET: Do you still feel like a newlywed [to TEA LEONI]?

David: No.

ET: Do you feel like it's a regular routine kind of thing?

David: No... I don't mean to say that it's not great. But, we've been married for almost a year and a half, so it's a while.

ET: Is she going to do a guest episode on the show?

David: No, I don't think so.

ET: You don't want to work side-by-side?

David: I don't think we could afford her.

ET: What's it like being on the ship 'Queen Mary'?

David: It's like being in the Navy.

ET: Any kind of secrets for this season that you could tell us about? What do you know?

David: You seem to already to have the goods. You've got the kiss, you've got the period piece here you've got more stuff than I would've told you already, so I don't know who you've been talking to but they're spilling the beans.

ET: Romance? Any more romance between Scully and Mulder?

David: I don't think so. The formula seems to work.

ET: Yeah, but you guys are making out now... It's moved on to a whole new level.

David: I didn't say making out. We didn't make out.

ET: What are you, President Clinton? I mean, did you kiss?

David: Yeah, we kiss but we didn't make out. It's not a peck. It's not making out. You don't see any tongue. No tongue involved.
